INTEGRATION OF CERTAIN LANDS AND WATERS INTO NATIONAL PARKS AND NATURE RESERVES
NATIONAL PARKS ASSOCIATION OF NSW INC
POLICY No 17, 5 August 1995
To improve the integrity of national parks and nature reserves:
1. Steps should be taken , where feasible, to integrate into the park or reserve all lands or waters which intersect, dissect, or form alien holdings within, or are situated within, the boundaries of parks or reserves, and which include certain road reserves, travelling stock routes (TSRs), travelling stock and camping reserves (TS&CRs), other easements, waters and beds of lakes, estuaries and streams.
2. As a high priority, TSRs and TS&CRs should be formally revoked and re-reserved, or rededicated under the National Parks and Wildlife Act as part of the park or reserve, and this option should be investigated for certain Crown road reserves, with provision for augmentation of NPWS funding if ongoing expenditure will be incurred for the maintenance of a public road.
3. All road verges within the National Parks and Wildlife Service Estate should be managed to minimise impact on the environment according to NPWS guidelines. To achieve this, NPWS should immediately seek a Memorandum of Understanding with the management authority of such public roads (Roads and Transit Authority or local government), seeking to implement an agreed plan of management that will protect environmental values and maintain the integrity of the park or reserve.
